Hurricane Sandy 2012 (Photo credit: charliekwalker) |
We never thought we'd lose our house entirely to storm damage from Hurricane Sandy. We never thought we'd end up living somewhere else, even temporarily. We had insurance. We have some savings. Eventually, we will be rebuilding, once we finish going through all these hoops and red tape. We are off to a good start with all of that at the moment, but it's discouraging.
Sitting here on this grey, January 1st morning, listening to the dog snoring near me on the floor, I have to agree that the transition has been a shock. All of us are depressed to varying degrees. There are definitely PTSD symptoms involved with regard to when there are storms now. Our decision to go up on pilings was the right thing to do, even if it does put us even further into debt than we already were. Us freaking out when the water level rises tells us that we made the right decision.
So 2013 really will be a year of changes. Adjusting to living in the Commodore house again. Planning the new Anchor house. Hopefully moving in to it before the end of the year. Who knows what else will come along.
I think we are ready to shake this off and move on...Happy 2013. May yours be healthy, safe and fine.
